Bamboo Wind Chimes

Bamboo wind chimes are a natural and environmentally friendly way to relieve stress and achieve relaxation. Their beautiful and relaxing tone is soothing to the soul.

What is bamboo?
Bamboo is a tall grass that grows into wood-like stalks. It is very lightweight and durable. Bamboo is an abundant source of this remarkable cane; a single bamboo plant can grow several kilometers of cane. Bamboo cane is used for making so many things - including relaxing bamboo wind chimes.

Bamboo processing
Although some manufacturers use chemicals in their processing, bamboo does not need harsh chemicals to prepare the cane for making wind chimes. Bamboo stalks will dry naturally over time. It can however, take the younger, greener stalks several months to reach the right stage. Older, larger stalks are not as green; but may eventually split over time. Splitting is natural
Splitting may happen to some degree in the many dried bamboo stalks. Splitting is natural for bamboo. The splitting may affect the sound of the wind chime, but only very little. Some people enjoy the sound of the split bamboo wind chimes, or a chime with a combination of whole tubes and split pieces. This chime not only sounds great, it looks great too. Before purchasing a bamboo chime, you may decide to experience both varieties before making your final decision.

Bali Monkey
11 August 2008

A monkey is any member of either the New World monkeys or Old World monkeys, two of the three groupings of simian primates, the third group being the apes. There are 264 known extant species of monkey.

The New World monkeys are classified within the parvorder Platyrrhini, whereas the Old World monkeys (superfamily Cercopithecoidea) form part of the parvorder Catarrhini, which also includes the apes. Thus, scientifically speaking, monkeys are paraphyletic (not a single coherent group), and Old World monkeys are actually more closely related to the apes than they are to the New World monkeys.

Because of their similarity to monkeys, apes such as chimpanzees and gibbons are often called "monkeys" in informal usage, though they are not monkeys. Conversely, due to its size (up to 1 m/3 ft) the Mandrill is often thought to be an ape, but it is actually an Old World monkey. Also, a few monkey species have the word "ape" in their common name.
